review by Anthony Carew

Six acts with full sets and appropriate breaks, makes for a very long
evening. Six acts of this quality makes for a very good evening. Minimum
Chips, commencing, were absolutely brilliant. It left me wondering when
exactly it was that they became, y'know, this fucking good. Now with added
bassplayer - playing absolutely beautiful, melodic and complex parts,
it should be noted - the result was not too dissimilar to when local postrock
card-carriers By Ferry or Steamer gained themselves a bassplayer, tightening
and stengthening the sound indelibly. On several moments this anchored
edition of Minimum Chips were so impressive they recalled the heavenly
highs of psychadelic beatnik-pop brummies, Broadcast: a charismatic thickly-woven
sound of wandering bass/ edgy-guitar/ scattering-drums/ droning-organ/
radiant-vocals that recalled their excellent recorded work, as opposed
to their not-so-excellent live track record.
